PLAY AND THRIVE PEER GROUP SESSIONS
PEER GROUP SESSIONS EXPLAINED (AGES 4-11)
4 children per group, two therapists
Our nature based social skills groups provide children with a calm and nurturing space where they feel confident and safe enough to build new relationships with peers. They will be encouraged to participate in a range of outdoor activities with their peers that will support the development of their social-emotional and physical skills. Skills they learn in this group can be transferred into their daily lives in the school playground or during play dates with friends at a playground or a backyard.
In these groups, children will be supported to develop skills through play including communication with their peers, initiating, and extending on conversations, conflict resolution, problem solving, expressing their opinions and feelings and actively listening and attending to their peers. Being able to provide therapy groups in a natural environment also means that we can incorporate the development of other essential skills such as:
-
Emotional regulation
-
Self regulation
-
Sensory processing
-
Body awareness
-
Safety awareness
-
Executive function
-
Attention
-
Fine and gross motor skills
-
